After the success of the exhibition dedicated to Gustav Klimt and his Judith II, the show Cortocircuito (Short Circuit) brings to Mestre two giants of Italian art, Titian and Fontana, in dialogue on the theme of the Annunciation, a subject of great interest not only with regard to the history of ancient iconography but also for its contemporary conceptualisation.

The announcement, understood as a call, illumination and inspiration, is at the centre of this new project, which offers visitors an opportunity to familiarise themselves with a number of masterpieces from art collections in Venice’s museums, as well as from one of the most prestigious and ancient local institutions, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, present here with Titian’s magnificent Annunciation.

Masterpieces from every era will be displayed within a documentary context with a highly scientific but also multimedia profile. The close relationship between the works is established through dialogues between past and present, but above all through visual and emotional short circuits that encourage viewers to consider how the form and content of contemporary art is nothing more than the latest evolution of concepts, ideas and themes from the past.

The value of a masterpiece is confirmed if, despite metamorphoses in style, it is able to perpetuate its message throughout the centuries. Art – real art – has always been and still is the metaphor of our time, because as Marshall McLuhan said: “The artist is always engaged in writing a detailed history of the future because he is the only person aware of the nature of the present”.
