Casermette, Forte Marghera
Casermetta 9
Since December 2025, the renovated spaces of Casermetta 9 in Forte Marghera have been open to the public: it is one of the two twin 19th‑century buildings also known as the Napoleonic Casermette.
Overlooking the bay of Forte Marghera, Casermetta 9 has regained a public and cultural role, contributing to the revival of one of the city’s most significant historic complexes.
The reopening is the result of an extensive conservative restoration, commissioned by the City Administration and entrusted to the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, which has transformed it into a new gathering place and a venue dedicated to contemporary culture, with a particular focus on emerging artists.
In addition to hosting each year the group exhibitions of the artists in residence at the Emeroteca dell’Arte, reopened in 2024, the new space will become the venue for the annual exhibitions of the “Artefici del nostro Tempo” competition.
Exhibition activities
The exhibition and cultural programmes curated by Fondazione MUVE fit perfectly into the Forte Marghera area, where other institutions such as La Biennale are already active, and are aimed at a young audience through innovative approaches. This historic site, restored and returned to the city, an exemplary meeting point between water and mainland, is an ideal venue for contemporary art.
Until 17 May 2026, Casermetta 9 will host the exhibition GRANDA. Gli artisti degli Atelier 2024-2025.
After a first stop at the two venues of Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa – Palazzetto Tito and the Gallery in Piazza San Marco, the exhibition arrives in the new Casermette exhibition space at Forte Marghera with a renewed layout, conceived to embrace and bring together, in these distinctive historic rooms, all 27 artists in residence between Venice and Mestre in 2024-2025.

L’Architettura della velocità, dedicated to one of the most attractive symbols of twentieth-century design; Mare Blu, paying homage to water and waves, with the flowing of video and film images and site-specific installations.
